Join us Saturday: Rally for Power to the People!
“No Kings” is a national pro-democracy, anti-authoritarianism movement formed by a coalition of more than 200 organizations dedicated to the principle that the United States has no king and must reject totalitarian power grabs. On the first No Kings Day on June 14, 2025, more than 2,000 rallies were held in cities and towns across the nation, with an estimated 5 million people participating. Onward!
What's the plan?
50 Ways Rockbridge, the Lex-Rock-BV Democrats, and Hearts for Democracy invite you to participate in a community walk and non-violent protest Saturday to mark the second nationwide “No Kings” day.
Under the banner of “No Kings: Power to the People,” the Lexington event will feature a sidewalk march from Oak Grove Cemetery to Hopkins Green, followed by a short program of speakers. Participants are encouraged to bring signs that highlight cherished values that need defending and that call aspiring authoritarians to account.
“We’re in the middle of attacks on free speech, affordable healthcare, public education, science, women’s rights and basic respect for working people,” said Allen Pickens, Lex-Rock-BV Democrats member. “Our local congressional representative, Ben Cline, has been a willing participant and apologist for every one of those. So we’re also marching to ‘DeCline’ the betrayal of our community.”
“Our Lexington rally in June brought out more than 500 people to Hopkins Green,” said Tinni Sen, a 50 Ways Rockbridge representative. “It was inspiring to see so many of our community members gather to honor and protect our democracy, which is facing unprecedented challenges.”
The event is free, open to the public, and will take place rain or shine. The community walk will begin at 2 pm. Participants are encouraged to gather a few minutes beforehand.
